City of Palmdale Encourages Responsible “Safe and Sane” Fireworks Use
PALMDALE, CA — As the Fourth of July approaches, the City of Palmdale reminds residents to responsibly use Safe and Sane fireworks in legal areas within City limits. Only fireworks with the California State Fire Marshal’s seal are legal for use in Palmdale from 12 p.m. Saturday, June 28, through 12 p.m. Saturday, July 5. These safety rules help prevent injuries and property damage while allowing the community to enjoy holiday traditions.

“The Fourth of July gives us the opportunity to celebrate America’s founding principles of liberty and democracy,” said Mayor Richard J. Loa. “As we gather with family and friends, using Safe and Sane fireworks carefully, shows what makes our nation special — neighbors looking out for each other and taking personal responsibility for our community’s well-being.”

The City encourages residents who use Safe and Sane fireworks to:

  • Read and follow directions
  • Only allow adults to handle fireworks; young children should never handle fireworks
  • Keep a bucket of water nearby
  • Light fireworks one at a time on a flat, level surface away from other people, structures, dry vegetation and other flammable materials; move away quickly
  • Never point or throw fireworks at another person
  • Never relight or fix misfired fireworks

Loud noises can scare pets, so it’s best to keep them indoors. Talk to your veterinarian about ways to help ease their anxiety and never leave them outside unsupervised.

Safe and Sane fireworks are not allowed in areas designated as a "No Fireworks Zone" This includes areas south of the California Aqueduct, such as the Anaverde development. Residents are encouraged to use the interactive map and report illegal fireworks online at www.CityofPalmdaleCA.gov/Fireworks. Remember, “If you light it, we’ll write it!”

The City will host a spectacular, professional fireworks show featuring a flyover and live music at the Palmdale Amphitheater on July 4 starting at 8 p.m.

“This professional display offers a way to celebrate Independence Day’s patriotic spirit in a safe, family-friendly environment,” said Mayor Pro Tem Laura Bettencourt. “It’s the perfect way to enjoy America’s birthday together as one community, with a dazzling display of fireworks that honors our nation’s enduring freedom.”

Tickets to the City’s fireworks display start at $6 and are available for purchase at www.PalmdaleAmphitheater.com. Kids 12 and under are admitted free with a reserved ticket.
