$18.5 Million Transformation Expands Sam Yellen Park |
Ribbon Cutting October 14
PALMDALE, CA — The City of Palmdale is thrilled to announce the grand opening of Phase II of Sam Yellen Park, a stunning $18.5 million investment that reimagines public recreation in our community. Residents are invited to join the celebration and ribbon cutting on Tuesday, Oct. 14, at 11 a.m. at 5100 E. Ave. S, as the City unveils a dynamic new chapter for one of Palmdale’s premier parks.
This transformative expansion doubles the park’s footprint to 24.5 acres, turning once-undeveloped land into a world-class destination for families, athletes and community gatherings. Made possible through Park Development funds, Measure A and Measure AV, this milestone project reflects Palmdale’s deep commitment to building vibrant spaces that bring people together.
“This remarkable transformation elevates our community’s recreational opportunities,” said Mayor Pro Tem Laura Bettencourt. “Sam Yellen Park stands as a testament to our City’s commitment to investing in our parks. Everyone will find something to love here.”
At the heart of the expansion are seven premier futsal courts, with a mix of natural and artificial turf, making Sam Yellen Park the region’s largest futsal hub. The park is set to become a magnet for local leagues, tournaments and athletes of all ages.

Fitness enthusiasts will enjoy seven outdoor workout stations, thoughtfully placed to complement the athletic fields, while young families can explore an expanded playground area with dedicated equipment for children ages 2 to 5.
The expansion also introduces a spacious community plaza, providing an ideal setting for community events and neighborhood gatherings, anchored by a modern 1,888-square-foot community room that will offer free year-round recreation programming for youth. Families and friends can enjoy new picnic areas, shaded seating and beautiful landscaping that create inviting places to relax and connect.
Accessibility and convenience shine in the new design. A dedicated parking lot off Hillcrest Drive and a traffic-friendly roundabout make drop-offs simple and safe. For those who love evening strolls, illuminated walkways and new lighting at the existing dog park ensure the fun continues well after sunset.
While welcoming landscape and expansive turf are featured prominently in Phase II, the City also enhanced landscaping in Phase I with new trees, shrubs and green space that tie both phases together into a unified, vibrant park experience. Of the total budget, $1.8 million was dedicated to landscaping.
The $18.5 million expansion of Sam Yellen Park is a lasting investment in Palmdale’s quality of life. From playgrounds to futsal courts, plazas to picnic areas, this project delivers a recreational destination designed to inspire pride, wellness and community connection for generations to come.
