| Palmdale Mobilizes Emergency Food Distribution as CalFresh Benefits Are Suspended |
The City of Palmdale is rising to meet a potentially unprecedented need for food following the anticipated suspension of CalFresh Program benefits, affecting 1.5 million people across Los Angeles County. Beginning Monday, Nov. 3, South Antelope Valley Emergency Services (SAVES) will mobilize by switching to an emergency services mode.
SAVES will offer drive-thru services only to maximize efficiency and help reach as many families as possible during this critical time. Food will be provided Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., until further notice at the SAVES office, 1002 E. Ave. Q-12. The distribution line will start at 11th Street East and East Avenue Q-12. Service hours and days are subject to change based on community need.
No appointments are necessary, and previously scheduled appointments will not be honored. Residents may begin lining up at 9 a.m. and must be in line by 3 p.m. to receive food. Those arriving later will need to return on the following service day. Residents without vehicles may walk to the front entrance for assistance.
“Our community is facing an unprecedented challenge, and SAVES is responding by streamlining our operations to serve as many families as possible,” said Mayor Pro Tem Laura Bettencourt. “We’re committed to stepping in to ensure no one in Palmdale goes hungry while CalFresh benefits are suspended.”

Other SAVES services, including deliveries and appointments, are suspended during this time to allow staff to focus on emergency food distribution. No documents are required to receive assistance.
Traffic control measures will be in place to manage the anticipated high volume of residents seeking assistance. The City asks for the community’s patience and cooperation as SAVES works to serve everyone efficiently and with dignity.
SAVES, a Los Angeles Regional Food Bank provider, has served very low and extremely low-income working families, seniors, individuals with disabilities and those experiencing homelessness in the South Antelope Valley since 1983. The program receives funding support from Community Development Block Grants and Measure AV. SAVES receives nutritious food to sustain thousands of lives through collaboration with the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, local markets, stores and restaurants.
