| Sparkle on the Square: Palmdale Lights Up Poncitlán Square All December |
The City of Palmdale invites residents to celebrate the magic of the season at Sparkle on the Square, a dazzling series of holiday events featuring spectacular light displays, cherished traditions and unforgettable family experiences throughout December at Poncitlán Square, located at 38315 9th St. East.
“Sparkle on the Square captures everything we love about the holidays in Palmdale,” said Mayor Pro Tem Laura Bettencourt. “These events bring us together to share in the joy of the season and to celebrate the traditions that make this time of year so special.”
The month-long celebration kicks off with the Poncitlán Square Tree Lighting Ceremony on Tuesday, Dec. 2, with festivities beginning at 4 p.m. and the tree lighting at 4:45 p.m., illuminating the square in a breathtaking array of colors and officially welcoming the holiday season. Residents can arrive early to enjoy free hot chocolate and churros (while supplies last) as carolers fill the air with holiday classics. Santa will make a special appearance, and children can take home festive giveaways while supplies last. The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department will host a toy drive and will collect new, unwrapped toys in their Bearcat vehicle.
The magic continues with Holiday Family Movie Night on Friday, Dec. 12, featuring the beloved animated film “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” (2018). Families can enjoy a Grinch meet and greet, movie trivia, free crafts. Food trucks will be available to purchase refreshments. The movie begins at dusk under the stars.

The season culminates with Holiday Magic at the Square on Friday, Dec. 19, from 4-7 p.m. This spectacular finale transforms Poncitlán Square into a winter wonderland complete with artificial snow, crafts, a cookie decorating station, food trucks, giveaways for kids 12 and under (while supplies last), lighted Christmas displays and, of course, Santa.
Residents are also invited to visit the square anytime from Nov. 28 through Jan. 4, from dusk until 10 p.m., to stroll through and enjoy the dazzling holiday light display. Whether you stop by for a few photos, an evening walk or to soak in the sparkle of the season, the lights will be shining bright all season long.
All events are free to attend and are designed for families and residents of all ages.
